Continuing the Journey: Romana’s Family Takes Their Next Step Forward in Endala
In the hillside community of Endala, Romana and her family are continuing their journey with Food for His Children (FFHC), a journey marked by persistence, faith, and hope for a brighter future.
After being recommended by their village leaders, Romana’s family joined FFHC eager to learn, grow, and strengthen their small household economy. During this second visit, staff met again with Romana, her husband Martin, and their son Joseph, who continues to play an important role in helping the family move forward.
Joseph, who attended school through third grade, now dreams of becoming an entrepreneur. After learning about the Street Business School (SBS) from FFHC staff member Frank, Joseph shared his hope to open a small shop selling everyday essentials like soda, soap, and sugar. This vision represents more than just income, it’s a pathway toward self sufficiency for their family.
The family’s living situation remains modest but full of potential. Their home, though currently structurally unsound, sits on a tree filled property that offers natural resources for rebuilding. A renovation would cost roughly 10 million Tanzanian shillings, and FFHC staff have encouraged them to take gradual steps toward that goal. Water is located just 300 meters away, which the family collects in 40-liter trips, and they typically share two meals a day, porridge in the morning and ugali in the evening.
Romana and Martin continue to care for their daughter Marietta, who is paralyzed on her left side but otherwise in good health. When illness or emergencies arise, the family must hire transportation—a challenge in their steep, hilly area. If Martin needs to visit the hospital, their second son helps by paying for the 10,000 Tsh motorcycle fare to reach the nearest clinic.
Despite these challenges, the family’s faith and unity remain steadfast. Romana continues to express gratitude for the support and encouragement she receives from FFHC, saying that having people “walk alongside” her family has brought comfort and renewed hope.
Each visit brings new progress and new goals, like rebuilding their home, supporting Joseph’s business dream, and caring for Marietta’s health—all steps toward the family’s long-term vision of independence and dignity.
