Building Her Future Brick by Brick: Beatrice Bayo’s Story of Perseverance in Kilimamoja

In the welcoming community of Kilimamoja, Beatrice Bayo is quietly building a better life for her family, brick by brick, goat by goat, and prayer by prayer. A devoted mother of four and a determined learner, Beatrice embodies the spirit of hope that Food for His Children (FFHC) was created to nurture.

Beatrice joined FFHC in June 2024, working closely with Elisha, a field officer who guided her through the dairy goat program. After months of preparation, she received her three goats in September 2025, marking the beginning of a new chapter of stability and self-reliance.

For Beatrice, goats are more than livestock, they’re living savings accounts. Their milk will nourish her family, and the income from future offspring will help cover her children’s school tuition and other household needs. Her dream is simple but profound: to earn enough through her goat business and small farm to end her reliance on casual labor.

Together with her husband Albert, who serves as the site secretary, Beatrice has worked tirelessly to improve their home. After two years of construction, the family recently moved into their new brick house, complete with a separate kitchen, latrine, bath house, and clothesline, all signs of the family’s hard won progress. Their home now meets all 17 Points of a Healthy Home, a milestone Beatrice is deeply proud of.

Albert works three days a week at a local lodge, caring for the swimming pool and doing laundry. His income, between 150,000 and 220,000 Tsh per month, helps sustain the household, while Beatrice manages day-to-day needs with remarkable resourcefulness. She even participates in a savings group and has encouraged two other families to join FFHC after seeing how the program has changed her own life.

Though she no longer has a farm of her own, Beatrice dreams of one day buying land to grow food for her goats and children. For now, she purchases maize and other staples from nearby farmers, stretching every shilling to make ends meet. Her loan of 50,000 Tsh helped finish part of the house, and she continues to pray for new opportunities to expand her small businesses, especially her goal of starting a chicken project again after a previous flock of 100 birds was lost.

Her most valued lessons from FFHC include the “17 Points of a Healthy Home” WASH training and sessions on how to generate income from home. She also hopes to enroll in additional programs like Street Business School (SBS) to learn more about entrepreneurship and financial planning.

“Goat keeping is like a savings for my family,” Beatrice shares. “Each goat is a blessing that can help my children go to school and grow into people who can care for others.” With faith, hard work, and community support, Beatrice is turning her prayers into progress—building not just a house, but a legacy for her children: Annette (13), Zawadi (11), Geofrey (8), and Jonson (5).
