A New Beginning: Monika and Augustino’s Journey of Faith and Possibility in Bassodawish
In the hopeful village of Bassodawish, a young couple, Monika (27) and Augustino Paulino (28), are starting a brand-new chapter in their lives—one built on faith, family, and opportunity through Food for His Children (FFHC).
The couple lives with their three bright children: Samson (10), Felista (9), and Shadrach (5). Each child already dreams of a future that reflects their family’s growing sense of hope. Felista, now in Class 2, dreams of becoming a teacher, while little Shadrach proudly says he wants to be a policeman when he grows up.
Monika and Augustino both work casual labor jobs, helping other farmers in the area. Life has not been easy, but their determination shines through every challenge. Monika is also expecting a new baby, and together they are preparing their home and hearts for the next blessing God will bring.
The family was introduced to FFHC by another recipient, and since joining in September, their outlook has completely changed. Before joining, Augustino often felt limited by circumstance—struggling to see a way forward. Now, through FFHC’s encouragement and training, he says he realizes he can “do many projects—finish the house and start more.”
He believes that his connection to FFHC will open doors beyond what he imagined. After hearing the Word of God through FFHC’s outreach, Augustino gave his life to Jesus, beginning a powerful new spiritual journey for his entire family.
Their home already reflects their growing commitment to progress. They’ve laid the foundation for a new house, surrounded by fruit trees—mango, banana, and guava—and have begun a kitchen garden. Around their home are signs of care and order: a clothesline, rubbish pit, handwashing station, and clean compound shaded by trees. They’ve also started building a fence and a separate kitchen house, small steps that mark a big leap toward stability.
For water, Augustino rides his bicycle to the water source, paying 50 shillings for 20 liters—a cost that adds up, but one he manages faithfully. Sometimes he also uses his father’s cow cart to fetch water, helping both families in the process. The family typically eats two meals a day—porridge in the morning and either makande (maize and pigeon peas) or ugali in the evening.
Their dreams are many, and their faith even greater. Augustino shared a word he received from the Lord—that “he can do more work than three other men”—and he believes that through God’s strength and FFHC’s guidance, their opportunities will expand exponentially.
“I see now that I can do more than I thought,” Augustino says with a smile. “God has opened my eyes to new possibilities.”
For Monika and Augustino, this is just the beginning of a journey filled with faith, gratitude, and the determination to create a brighter future for their children.
