From Poultry to Paravet: Albert Lazaro’s Journey of Growth and Giving Back
Just off a quiet paved road in Karatu lives Albert Lazaro, a man whose determination and generosity have transformed not only his own family but also his entire community. Albert is a proud graduate of the Small Business School (SBS) and an inspiring Farmer Motivator and Paravet with Food for His Children (FFHC).
When Albert joined SBS, he dreamed of building something sustainable for his family. He started small—with a poultry business—and soon expanded into soap making. When his children’s education became a priority, Albert made the selfless choice to sell his chickens to pay for private school tuition. Today, his family continues to run the soap business, a steady source of income that keeps them moving forward.
Albert’s daughter, Yohanna, has followed closely in her father’s entrepreneurial footsteps. She learned tailoring between 2019 and 2021 and is now a Small Business School graduate herself, managing a growing sewing business. Yohanna creates beautiful dresses, adding new materials and tools—like kitenge fabric and professional scissors—to expand her craft. December and Easter are her busiest seasons, and she often receives small business loans from her father to invest in new fabrics.
Albert and his wife are raising four children—two boys and two girls, with two currently in secondary school and the youngest still at home. Despite the challenges of providing for a growing family, Albert has never stopped learning. This year, he began paravet training, gaining the skills to identify animal illnesses and safely perform injections—skills that are already improving livestock health in his village.
As a Farmer Motivator, Albert’s farm serves as a living classroom. Positioned along a main road, it attracts at least ten visitors each week seeking his advice. He is proud to share his knowledge of hybrid seeds and sustainable farming techniques—innovations that helped him triple his harvest this year. FFHC trusts Albert deeply; his honesty, consistency, and care for others make him a pillar in his community.
“When people see Albert’s success,” says an FFHC staff member, “they see what’s possible when someone is given knowledge, opportunity, and faith in themselves.”
Albert’s story shows what empowerment looks like in action—a family strengthened, a community inspired, and a future made brighter through education and hard work.
